Protest against the informal EU Defence Summit 2010.

During the Belgian presidency of the European Union, the ministers of defence
will gather for an informal meeting in Ghent on 23rd and 24th September. The Belgian peace movement does not want to see a summit that prepares for war. The EU must not become an economic block that prepares for war. Europe must be a project of peace that prioritises social and environmental issues, providin sustainable jobs, ensures public services, defends social security, invests in sustainable development and has a fair international trade policy. Europe must “disarm to develop”. For this reason, we are calling everyone to come to Ghent to take part in a peace demonstration in Ghent on 23rd September.

The demonstration starts at 7pm at the “Woodrow Wilsonplein” at the Zuid, near the city library. It can be reached on foot in 15 minutes from the train station Gent Dampoort. From the main train station of Gent Sint Pieters, take tram 21 of 22. Ghent can be reached easily by train from Brussels, with 3 trains each hour, taking about 30 minutes.
